How Does Cadillac Super Cruise Work?
Cadillac is taking a step into the future with the Cadillac Super Cruise system. Available on more than 200,000 miles of limited-access freeways separated from opposing traffic, this hands-free, driver assistance system is changing the way we drive.
With a capable driver behind the wheel and under the right driving conditions, the active hands-free driving system is paired with the Adaptive Cruise Control system, which helps control acceleration and braking when enabled.
This intuitive control system is supported with services through OnStar® and uses precise LiDAR mapping, in-car cameras, radar sensors, and GPS to carefully monitor each curve and hill on the roads around Morgan City. Included in the Cadillac Super Cruise package is 3 years of OnStar® functionality support, after which an additional OnStar® plan can be purchased. Interested in the Cadillac Super Cruise system? Activating Cadillac Hands-Free Driving
Raceland drivers can find their favorite CT4 or CT5 models and enjoy this system in a couple of easy steps:
- Press the Adaptive Cruise Control button located on the steering wheel. On the instrument cluster, a white symbol will be illuminated. When the adaptive cruise control is already active, the GREEN symbol with the speed will be shown. When using Cadillac Super Cruise, verify these systems settings:
- Adaptive Cruise Control Is: ON
- Forward Collision System Set To: ALERT AND BRAKE
- Teen Driver is: OFF
- The Super Cruise symbol will turn WHITE on the instrument cluster when the intuitive system verifies that the driver is on a limited-access freeway, the driver is alert, and other driving conditions are met. Those conditions can include:
- Lane markings visible
- GPS available
- NO system faults
- Once those conditions are met, press the Super Cruise button located on the steering wheel. While the system engages, the symbol and the steering wheel light bar will turn GREEN. Once it does, drivers are safe to remove their hands from the wheel. Do not remove your hands from the wheel until the light bar is green. This indicates that the Super Cruise is activated and steering your vehicle. To disengage, simply tap the brakes or press the Super Cruise button again.
When Not To Use Super Cruise
While Cadillac hands-free driving is an exciting technology, safety is always key. Here are some of the situation in which the Super Cruise systems should not be activated:
- When there is no limited-access freeway separated from opposing traffic
- During difficult or uncertain driving conditions
- When lane markings are hard to see, or there is limited visibility
- In tunnels or construction zones
- In slippery or inclement weather like rain, sleet, fog, snow, or ice
- When towing a trailer
- When in a freeway exit lane, as Super Cruise is not designed to operate in this area
