Musty Smell

An earthy, musty smell from the AC is a sign that bacteria have found their way into your AC and started to grow. Bacteria, fungi, and mold spores travel invisibly through the air and can easily enter your AC. During the winter, the lack of movement in the AC, combined with dark recesses and traces of water in the ducts, can cause these organisms to thrive.

Fortunately, this issue is quick and easy to solve. We pour an antibacterial cleaning solution into the AC and switch it on. This solution is blown through the ducts and other crevices in the system and will rapidly remove these unwelcome residents. Once the solution has done its work, your AC will be as fresh as a daisy again.

Damaged Fans

If your AC isn’t blowing fast, even when set to the highest speed, you could have damaged fans. The fans blow cold air produced by the AC into your cabin. They’re made from plastic and can get damaged by hard objects like sand, gravel, or stones drawn in through the air vents. Depending on the damage, a fan might spin slower than it should or not spin at all.

Another possible cause of a failed fan is a blown fuse. Like all other electrical systems, the fans have fuses. A blown fuse will shut down the affected fan until the fuse is replaced. If the AC hasn’t been used for a while, it’s also possible that leaves or dirt could have blocked a fan and prevented it from spinning. Our technicians will check the fans and repair or replace them, depending on the situation.

Blocked Expansion Valve

Refrigerant changes between gaseous and liquid state several times during the chilling process. In its liquid form, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the air, and this heat is removed when the refrigerant changes back into a gas. The expansion valve controls the flow of refrigerant into the system and delivers precise amounts into the evaporator to achieve the desired temperature.

Although the AC system is designed to be airtight, moisture can find its way inside over time. Moisture on the expansion valve will freeze in seconds as the cold refrigerant passes through it, and the frozen valve won’t supply any refrigerant. Without it, your AC will only blow hot air. We’ll clear the blocked valve, and your AC will be cold again.
